Canceling a Z to get a student visa

I currently have a Z working type, I have left china and my residence permit has been cancelled but my Z type is valid until 30 April 2018. I plan to go back to China as a Student to study Chinese and will obviously be on a student type (February 2018). My concern is will I be denied a student type if I still have a valid working type?
