Company not cancelling Residence Visa

Hi, I've been working in China and decided to change jobs. My company said they would not transfer my residence visa, only cancel it.

Its been a few days since the last day of my notice and they still have not dicussed cancelling it or my work permit. Are they legally obliged to do this? And what if they refuse?

Lee, sorry to tell you that your company has the right to cancel your work permit because you got it through them.

Thanks Benny, in this case I want them to cancel it so I can apply for a new one with my new employer. They keep telling me to wait, and are trying to stop me getting a new job. I am hoping that they have to cancel it by law, now that I am no-longer employed by them.

Cheers
