overnight in guangzhou

Question

I am a US citizen and will be traveling from Boston to Phnom Penh via on overnight stay in Guangzhou.  I  would like to book a hotel.  Does the 24 hour transit allow me to do this?  Can I leave the airport?Thank you.

Yes, you are eligible for 24h visa free transit. After landing, apply for a stayu permit at the immigration counter and you will be allowed to leave the airport. So you can of course book a hotel. By the way, I know China Southern Airlines arrange free accommodation for overnight passengers there. If you happen to use the airline, it is no need to book one.
