About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24 hour direct transit for Indonesian

I am Indonesian citizen will need Transit at Shanghai Pudong Airport for 12 hours and wants to go out Immigration and visiting Shanghai city and will comeback again to airport within 12 hours. I have onward ticket. Do I need to apply Transit G in my home country first or Am I eligible to apply free Direct Transit at Shanghai Pudong airport when I arrive there? Please advise, thank you

Winarto, you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai, so you don’t need to apply for a transit G type for that.
If you want to leave the airport, just go to the immigration office at Shanghai airport to apply for a free temporary stay permit.

thanks for your answer.
However, just to clarify, as on Chinese embassy website, they state that the Direct Entry visa you only can stay in transit area and not allowed to pass border control. So how is it? please confom. Thanks again

If you have the free temporary stay permit, you are allowed to leave the transit area. Don't worry!
