If you intend to visit Shenzhen only and for such a short time, then you should definitely apply for VOA at the border crossing. The best border crossing is Lo Wu / Luohu. You will easily arrive there by suburban train from Hong Kong and apply and obtain a visa on arrival there. The price is 130 CNY and the payment is done by any bank card (debit or credit) or by Chinese cashless applications. You should not bother yourself with a regular visa for such a short visit. VOA is the best solution in your case. When you are done with a visit to Shenzhen you can return to Hong Kong by taking any border crossing and also any mean of transport, high speed train included (you cannot use high speed train toward Shenzhen, but it is good to return back). Have a nice visit to Shenzhen.

But if I still take care of VOA in Shenzhen, is that possible? If I stay 1 night, can I use VOA in shenzhen?

Yes, of course you can. Shenzhen visa on arrival (VOA) is valid for 5 consecutive days. In other words, when your Shenzhen VOA is granted, you can stay for 5 consecutive days in the city. This is not a problem at all. The only detail here that you should be aware of is the fact that if you plan to stay overnight, you will have to write the name of the hotel you will use during your stay in Shenzhen at the application form. Nothing to worry about because this is usual procedure.

By the way, this is all valid if you plan to enter Shenzhen from Hong Kong and also return to Hong Kong after your visit, but if you plan to arrive to Shenzhen directly by plane from Indonesia, this is something else because there is no visa facility at Shenzhen airport. If this is the case, you can use visa free transit scheme (240 hour visa free transit), but in that case, you cannot return to Indonesia directly, but you will take a train to Hong Kong and then fly to Indonesia from there. OK, if this is the case, you will write here additional details if you need some additional explanation.
