Lost /stolen passport, is my visa valid?

I am a British passport holder Currently with a M type, based in shanghai. The other day my passport was lost or possibly stolen, I have reported it missing and am making all the correct steps to obtain a new one, however so far no has been able to answer the following question. Will my M type be carried over to my new passport or do I need to apply for another, the current M type is valid for another 11 months.

Simon, personally I think your M type can be carried over to the new passport, and you don't need to apply for another one. Don't worry!
