About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Stopover in Guangzhou

We are travelling in a couple of weeks from Christchurch NZ to Amsterdam with a stopover in Guangzhou. Our travel agent has organised a hotel as we have a 15 hour layover. However, on our return 5 weeks later, she has said we can not leave the airport.

We are flying Amsterdam to Christchurch via Beijing (2 hours - we don't want to leave in Beijing) and then to Guangzhou for 11 hours. We would like to just book a hotel for this 11 hour layover, like on the way over, but are we allowed to leave under the 72 hour free transit?

Any help would be appreciated

Hi, you cannot enjoy the free transit in Guangzhou because of your layover in Beijing. You need to apply for a visa beforehand.

Amsterdam-Beijing-Guangzhou-Christchurch should be fine for 24 hours direct transit in China (from scheduled arrival in Beijing to scheduled departure from Guangzhou).
