About:Prohibited Items

I'm bringing 17 days worth of my medication for an extended trip to Tokyo.

I have a 15 hour layover in Bejing. do I need to do anything special to facilitate this? none of the drugs are narcotics or the like, its blood pressure, diabetic, cholesterol medication.

You may submit your request to the airline company that carries you to Beijing, which shall make the application to the border control authorities of the Beijing airports that shall grant a temporary entry of you upon verification.
You could bring the 17-day medicine to Japan. Bring the doctor's note if they are prescription drugs.
