Tranfer through baggage at PEK

Travelling from London Heathrow to Ho Chi Min City with 8.5hr stop over at Beijing (PEK). All flights with Air China.
Can we check bags and get both boarding passes at London right through to HCMC without having to collect at PEK? We were hoping to leave the airport and take a short tour.
