About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can the country of departure before going to China and the destination when leaving be the same?

If I leave the Philippines and arrive in China, then leave China and return to the Philippines within 72 hours, is that ok?

That's obviously not in transit isn't it? Try to read the instructions will you?
