About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

German Citizen Travelling visa Beijing with long layover

Hi,

I am a German citizen travelling from Delhi via Beijing to Vancouver. I would like to take a few days in Beijing to visit a friend.

The flights I am looking at arrive in Beijing at 11:25 on the 3rd of August and leave Beijing at 13:00 on the 6th of August. Technically those are a little more than 73.5 hours.

Can I make us of the 72h exemption? Given that I will take time to leave the airport and go to immigration, and will arrive at the airport earlier on the flight back, I will actually be in China less than 72 hours.

I guess my main questions are: How strict are the conditions for the 72 hours and when does the clock start ticking on them, when I land or when I pass immigration?

Hi, the 72 hours are counted from the flight arrival time and departure time, so you won't qualify for the 72 hour free transit in Beijing.

As far as I know, the 72 hours counted on the next day at 00:00. In that case you can stay in Beijing. However, please refer to China Embassy of your country.

Please do not mislead people with outdated information. Call Beijing immigration if in doubt, and Chinese embassies are not gonna help.
