About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am a US citizen flying from Vancouver, Canada to Tokyo via a short layover in Hong Kong.

My return flight has a 12-hour layover in Beijing before going to Vancouver. Because I am an American, do I need a VISA to leave the Beijing airport for such a short stay?

Mike, you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit in Beijing. No visa is required for that.
