So I don't think I will make it off the plane, through customs and passport control and baggage collection by 23:00 to get the last express train. What's the cheapest/easiest way to get to Sanlitun area? Thanks.

You can take the airport shuttle bus BJ Railway Station Night Line to Dongzhimen Bus Stop. It is only about 4 kilometers from Dongzhimen to Sanlitun. You can take a taxi to your destination directly.
