About:Badaling vs. Mutianyu Great Wall

Is badaling preferred or mutianyu for for a weekend tour? thank you

Well, you are advised to visit Mutianyu Great Wall, because there will be less people there on weekends. In this case, you can appreciate the scenery freely but not trapped in the crowd.
