Leaving the country at the end of my work visa and returning

Hello,
I was wondering what the situation is if I am travelling abroad all of July and part of August, then returning to China on my visa that expires August 31st. It is a Z1 visa and I am planning to reapply for another upon my return. I am changing employers but the visa itself should not be a problem, just the coming back into the country so close to the expiration date. How close can I cut it? Will they ask me many questions at the border?

Thanks so much.

Alice

Alice, yes, you may be questioned and refused at the border and it is risky. In order to be safe, you are advised to apply for a new visa when you return.

I don't fully understand this answer. I AM going to apply for a new visa when I return, I am just returning about 10 days before the visa expires. What can I do to make it less tricky?

If so, there is no need to worry. You won’t be questioned as long as you have a new visa.
