Shanghai in September from Japan

If I want to come to Shanghai in September when should I apply and how do I go about doing it? Do I apply online somewhere? Also, I don't have a visa for a third country. Is that required? My husband is US Military but we will be coming from Okinawa, Japan.

Brittany, if you hold Japan passport, you can enjoy free entry to China and stay for not more than 15 days, no visa will be needed then. If your husband holds an USA passport and travel like Japan-Shanghai(144 hours)-a third country, he doesn't it. Otherwise, he needs one. You cannot make the application online.
If you go to China for sightseeing purpose, first, your husband needs to provide a filled-out application form affixed with a passport-style photo, passport and its photocopy, residence permit in Japan, round trip air tickets and hotel reservation. Next, submit the application to CVASC one month prior to the trip.
