Allowed to exit airport and see the city?

I have a 16 hour layover in Beijing Capital Airport on my way to Central Asia. Also, I already have a multiple entry tourist L visa to China.
Am I allowed to leave the airport and see the city for a few hours, or do I have to stay in the terminal?
