Day trip to Macau or HK during the 72h transit visa

We're travelling from London to Saigon and would like to have a stopover in Guangzhou where 72h free transit applies. However we'd like to go to either Macau or HK for a day trip. Will this 72h free transit allows us to make such a round day trip? Thanks

Simon, if you fly like London-Guangzhou(72 hours)-HK or Macau-Guangzhou(72 hours)-Saigon, you can enjoy 72 hour free transit in Guangzhou for two times. No need to worry.

You can, but you are only allowed to travel by air and not by land.

Based on what I know, you can only travel around Guangdong province when you enjoy the 72 hour free transit in Guangzhou.
If you travel by train on this route: London-Guangzhou (24 hours)-HK/Macau-Guangzhou (24 hours)-Saigon, you don’t need a visa either.

That requires a train ticket paid in advance and the booking system is impossible for someone who don't know Chinese to use. Plus, if his time in Guangzhou is over 24 hours he cannot use the 24-hour transit.
