About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am flying from Shenzhen to USA through Beijing

I'm planning on flying from Shenzhen on a 5-Day Shenzhen VOA to San Francisco with a 3 hour layover in Beijing. Do I need a transit G type and is it a problem transiting through Beijing on my Shenzhen visa?
