About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

We are travelling to Japan this Dec from NZ via Shanghai and have a 10hr layover

(arriving 0530 and leaving 17:30). Do I qualify for this 72 hour free transit? We don't need to check out our luggages too and only need to bring our hand carry luggages. Do we still need to inform the airlines that we are going out of the airport? Do we still need to be at the airport 2-3 hours before departure?

Yes. If you don't have luggage to collect then you can simply leave the airport after clearing immigration and customs.
