About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

No third country - US-Shanghai-US

Can I use the 144 hr visa if I'm flying from the US, staying in Shanghai for 6 days and then returning to the US?

No, Susan, you cannot use it because your travel route is not a transit at all.
