About:Shanghai 15-day Visa-free Policy for Cruise Tour Groups

Can we use Free visa for 15 days?

Hi, We are going to a cruise in December from Dec 9-15, 2017, we are flying from Manila to Shanghai on Dec. 9 and board the ship at the same day. We are Canadian citizens. The ship will go back to Shanghai on Dec 15, 2017 from Japan, but we will stay in Shanghai for a tour on Dec 15-16. We have booked our tours in Shanghai via Expedia which has Chinese Travel agency affiliation. Then we go to Beijing in the afternoon of Dec. 16. We will tour Beijing from Dec 16-18, 2017 and leave Beijing Dec. 18 at night and connecting flight is to Shanghai where we leave at past 12:00AM on Dec 19, 2017 to Manila. Again, we have booked our tours in Beijing via Expedia which has Chinese Travel agency affiliation.Do we need China Visa for these tours? Can we use the 15-day visa free?
Thank you, Bet from Canada

Bet, if you don't leave China by the same cruise, I'm afraid you need to apply for a tourist visa in advance. For you first entry to Shanghai, if you enter on Dec. 9 and leave within 6 days, you may use the 144hrs free transit in Shanghai.

Can I use the 24 hr free visa upon arrival to Shanghai to board the ship, since we are not staying yet in Shanghai. The cruise destination is Japan and will disembark in Shanghai. Then once, we disembark, can we get the 144-hr free visa? Are getting 24 hr visa upon arrival, then 6-day free visa upon cruise disembarkation be possible to be given to us?

Thank you,

Yes, you can use the 24-hour direct transit visa for your first entry. As for your second entry, since you will go to Beijing as well, you cannot use the 144hrs free transit.
