Can a British person get an F visa for China in Hong Kong? Or Bangkok?

I am currently in China on a z type, which expires this week. My new employer needs me to get a Ftype while they get me a new z type. I have a letter of invitation.
Should I get this from Hong Kong? Thailand? Or...?

Actually, you can try to convert the work Z type to F type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB within China. If it can be done, you don’t need to leave China.
