About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

I will be flying from Germany to Beijing and have 11 hours transit time before flying to Japan.

I want to go to the city for few hours, so I assume that I need temporary stay permit. Can I apply for it at the immigration? Or is there other procedure for this?

You will qualify for the 24 hour direct transit in Beijing. You can apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office inside the airport. There is no other procedure for that.
