About:China Visa on Arrival

American travelling with an Indonesian from CGK to SEA with a 20 hour layover at XMN. VoA?

I'm an American travelling with my Indonesian wife from Jakarta to Seattle with a 20 hour layover at Xiamen (flying Xiamen Air into and out of the airport). Can we get Visas on Arrival (VOA)?

We'd like get VOA so that we can stay at a nearby hotel and maybe do a little shopping.

If we can, do we need to have anything besides our passports and flight details to get through customs (i.e. recent photos, money - how much?, etc.)?

(First time travelling through China. My Chinese Language literacy consists of saying "hello" and counting to four.)

You are covered under the 72-hour free transit program. Your wife, however, needs to apply for a 24-hour entry permit on arrival which may or may not be granted by the immigration officer.
