About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi, my wife, 4 year old daughter and myself traveling from U. S. A. To Shanghai to Okinawa

Hi my family and I are traveling to Okinawa from the United States. We have a 19 and half hour layover in Shanghai on flight to Okinawa and a 2 and a half hour layover on way home. Would we need any special visa that we need to apply for or can we obtain everything once we land in Shanghai? We don't want to land and realize we needed to apply for something and it's to late. Thank you

Update*
Something I did not put in the original post, when we arrive to Shanghai from the U.S. On our 19 hour layover, we were wanting to get a room and explore if that's possible before boarding for the rest of the flight to our destination in Okinawa.

You don’t need visa for that because you are qualified for the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai in both directions.
If you want to leave the airport to explore the city, you just need to apply for a free temporary stay permit inside Shanghai airport.
