About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

I am a US citizen and I plan to fly into Beijing, stay there for 3-4 days

and then fly from Beijing to Hong Kong for 2 days and then fly from Hong Kong back to USA. Do I need a visa? If so how many entries?

Cynthia, if you travel like USA-Beijing (72 hours)-HK-USA, you will be able to enjoy the 72 hour free transit in Beijing. No visa will be needed then.

Thanks Ariel! What if I go from USA to Beijing (stay for 4 days) then fly to Hong Kong (2 days) then either fly or take a train to Guangzhou for 2 days - will I need a a double entry visa ?
Will it make a difference if I take a train instead of flying ?

If so, you need to apply for a double-entry visa for that.
