About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Less than 24 hrs layover

I am canadian citizen. I have 19 hrs transit in Shanghai. Can i go out and come back? Do i need to get or apply for any type of visa? If so when where and how? Also do i need to claim my luggage if i need to go out for less than 24 hrs?

If you read the guide above you should have an idea. And the luggage depends on the airline.

It depends on your itinerary. If you are flying non-stop Country A - SHA - Country B (where A and B are not China) then you don't need a visa and you can go outside the airport.

The hotel is located between T1 and T2, so clearing immigration is required.

So i need to clam the luggage and check in again? Is there any web site to book a room in advance?

Like I said, the luggage depends on your airline. The hotel can be booked by some third-party booking websites (Agoda, priceline, etc.). I believe it's called Da Zhong Airport Hotel or something like that.
