less than 24 hrs layover

Question

I am canadian citizen. I have 19 hrs transit in Shanghai. Can i go out and come back? Do i need to get or apply for any type of visa? If so when where and how? Also do i need to claim my luggage if i need to go out for less than 24 hrs? Thanks

It depends on your itinerary. If you are flying non-stop Country A - SHA - Country B (where A and B are not China) then you don't need a visa and you can go outside the airport.

The hotel is located between T1 and T2, so clearing immigration is required.

Like I said, the luggage depends on your airline. The hotel can be booked by some third-party booking websites (Agoda, priceline, etc.). I believe it's called Da Zhong Airport Hotel or something like that.
