About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am going to Hong Kong from Sydney and would like to go to Shanghai, then back to Syd via Hong Kong

Is this allowed under the 144 hour visa

If you want to go from HK to Shanghai and then back to HK, this is not allowed.
