Police clearance letter

I have to visit the consulate in Edinburgh to have a police clearance letter legalised. It's proving very difficult contacting the embassy via telephone and the websites have limited information. Where do I start?

You should first get the letter notarized by the local notary public and FCO. Next, go to the consulate general of China to attest the document.
Address of the consulate in Edinburgh: 55 Corstorphine Road. Edinburgh EH12 5QG
Tell: 0131- 3373220 (10:30a.m.-11:30a.m.)
