About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144 hour free transit

Hi Stone,
I mentioned in my previous email that we will be arriving in Shanghai from the Philippines & will return there after the cruise. Does it matter where we will be coming from?

Tess, if so, you won’t be eligible for the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai. Your travel route should be country A-Shanghai-country B if you want to make use of the 144 hour free transit.

Hello John,
What do you mean by country A shanghai-country B? I've been in contact with Stone from Portugal & he said we were qualified to use the 144 hour free transit. We're US citizens. It just so happened that our we will go to the Philippines first for a visit; then we leave from the Phil to Shanghai to start our cruise from Wusongkou Cruise Terminal in Shanghai to Busan, South Korea then to Kumamoto, Japan, and back to Shanghai from March 17-22. We decided to fly to Pudong International Airport Shanghai one day before our cruise starts which is on March 16. We're staying one night at Bund Riverside Hotel.
I hope this is not too confusing. I will wait for your response. Thanks.

Tess, country A-shanghai-country B means that the country you come from before entering Shanghai should be different from the country you will go to. I mistaken what you said (“we will be arriving in Shanghai from the Philippines & will return there after the cruise.”). Based on your specific itinerary, your travel route will be Philippines-Shanghai-Korea-Japan, right? If so, you can enjoy the free transit in Shanghai.
