About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I have a 5 hour layover in shanghai, do I need to apply for short-term visa?

flying from vietnam to USA, am an american passport holder. Have a 5 hour layover in shanghai. Do i need to apply for anything, or just hang out in the airport for my connecting flight?

Tim, if you don't need to leave the transit zone, you don't need to apply for anything and you can just hang out around the transit zone to wait for the connecting flight.
