About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Will driect transit apply to this itinerary for US? Visa required?

US -> Singapore -> cruise -> debark at Shanghai, Same day fly to Hong Kong, Stay in HK for a week than fly back to US.

It will apply.
Hong Kong is treated as a third country.
As long as arrival and departure time is between 24 hours, you are fine
