About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Am I eligible for 240 Hours TWOV for my itinery?

Hello, I appreciate if you can advice for my itinerary is eligible for 240-hours TWOV or not.
Aug-20 - leaving from Taiwan to Hong Kong with my own confirmed ticket and seat. Planning to layover in Hong Kong less than 24 hours for next flight to Xian-China.
Aug-21 - leaving from Hong Kong with a group tour to Xian-China for 6 days (8/21-8/26) group tour included round trip air ticket from Hong Kong to Xian.
Aug-26 - returning from Xian to HK and then will stay in HK for few days.
Aug-29 - leaving Hong Kong to Taiwan with my own confirmed ticket and seat.
I am holding a US passport.

No, unfortunately, your itinerary is not eligible for 240 hour visa free transit. The basic rule of 240 hour visa free transit requires that the immediate points before and after mainland China are located in two different countries or eligible territories (eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau). As you can see, you have your both immediate points in just one eligible territory - Hong Kong (quote from your post: "round trip air ticket from Hong Kong to Xian).

In order to make your itinerary eligible, you should insert another country or eligible territory within your itinerary. Usually I suggest using Macau that is located quite close to Hong Kong. Like this you can make your itinerary to look like:

Taiwan - Hong Kong - Macau (you can easily reach it from Hong Kong by fast ferries or by bus) - Xian - Hong Kong - Taiwan

As you can see, your possible (suggested), new itinerary has its immediate points, before and after mainland China in two eligible territories, Macau and Hong Kong. Hope you will be able to insert this correction into your itinerary in order to make you eligible for 240 hour visa free transit. Have a nice visit to China.
