About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am a US citizen taking a cruise that starts in Hong Kong and visits Shanghai. Do we need a Visa?

My cruise starts with 1 and half days in Hong Kong with the ship as our hotel. We than travel to Taipei for 2 days and then stop in Shanghai fro 1 day. The rest of our cruise is in Japan and we fly home from Tokyo. Do we qualify for the 144 hours exemption? As we are on a cruise and only have limited time in China are our passports all that we will need for this cruise?

Kathy, yeah, you qualify for the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai. Aside from the passport, you also need to provide the cruise tickets.
