About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

A bit confused when I enter Shanghai by ship and leave by air

i am arriving to Shanghai by cruise ship that originated in Tokyo. Celebrity Cruises tell me I just need to mention to immigration that I want the 144 hour visa exemption. I will be traveling by air, in two days, to fly to Taipei. this website states that I need a " A fully completed Arrival/Departure Card". The cruise line does not give us this. Your website also states, "It is necessary to inform the carrier before you arrive, so that they can declare your request to the immigration office for processing." The cruise line tells me they do not do this and it is not necessary. Will the stamp in my passport be enough, that I receive when getting off the ship and going thru immigration. I don't want to have trouple at the airport when flying to Taipei.

Hi Judy, I don´t have the experience with cruising to Shanghai, but normally they will have arrival and departure cards available at the immigration. Just tell them you want to use this 144 hour transit and ask for those cards. More important is showing the onward ticket and the hotel confirmation where you´ll stay those days. Have a nice cruise!
