About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Honolulu to Hong Kong with Multiple Stops including Beijing

Hi,
I will be going to Hong Kong from Honolulu. The route is going to be: Honolulu, connect in Korea for two hours, arrive in Beijing. Leave Beijing and go to Hong Kong. Can I use the 72 hour visa when I arrive in Beijing to explore Beijing?
