About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Sydney to Shanghai - 3 days, sailing Shanghai to Hong Kong and on to Singapore

US passport - flying Sydney to Shanghai for 3 night stay - then boarding ship in Shanghai for cruise to Hong Kong, then on to Singapore.
Do I qualify for the 144 hour free transit?
Do i have to contact the airline in advance? I have my ticket now and can't see who to notify about the request for the visa

Yes, you qualify for the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai. You need to inform the airline when you board the plane in Sydney.
