About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144 hour travel free exemption...

My wife and are US citizens and will be in Shanghai flying in from Montreal,Canada the month of April. Can we stay in Shanghai for 3 nights ,go to Vietnam for 8 nights with a Vietnam visa and forward ticket to fly from Shanghai to Ho Chi Minh. total we would be staying for 4 or 5 nights in Shanghai return to Canada flying out of Shanghai.

Yes, you can travel like that, and you will qualify for the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai in both directions.
