i am looking for cool places to travel to south of shanghai.

Question

I am a female american student in SH and am traveling down to taipei to meet some friends. Before i meet them in Taipei however, I have about a week free time to travel where I like. I mean to travel south...so probably in the Fujian Province. I am going to be traveling alone, and my mandarin is not the best. Is the mountain still a good place for an outdoorsy girl to go alone? Or is there somewhere else in the Province that you would recommend?
