This didn't answer my question.  I will return  within 72 hours.  What I want to know is can I fly from Taiwan to Guangzhou and then return to Taiwan? I will not be going to another country after Guangzhou,  I'll be returning to the country I came from. Is this okay?

That is not transit at all and you must get a visa. There are also no ways for people to get a mainland China visa in Taiwan AFAIK.
