Visit Shanghai from Macau then go to Hongkong

I am a US Citizen, I am planning to visit Shanghai from Macau and then go to Hongkong: Macau - Shanghai - Hongkong. Do I qualify for 72 hour free visa?

What is the best way to go to Shanghai from Macau and from Shanghai to Hongkong?

Yes, I’m sure. Your travel route does qualify for the free transit. The best way to travel like that is to travel by flights all the way.
