transit visa for vietnamese

Hello, I am going to Houston, TX on 31 December 2016, i booked the low fare tickets which will be laying over at Beijing Airport 16 hours, Am i able to leave the airport to enjoy Beijing capital for a couple of hours without making a transit visa?  I am holding Vietnamese passport.Thank you,

If you will fly to a third country or region instead of US after staying in Shanghai for 16 hours, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit in Beijing. No entry permit will be needed then. You can just apply for a free temporary stay permit at Beijing airport and then you can leave the airport to enjoy Beijing capital for a couple of hours.
