About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does the 144 free transit apply?

I am a USA citizen going on a cruise which ends in Shanghai and I am flying back to the US on the same day. I would like to know if the 144 free transit would work for me or do I have to apply for a China Visa? If I can use the 144 hour free transit where do I apply for it?

Mary, if the last country the cruise ship came from is not USA, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai because you just stay there for one day. You don’t need to apply for any entry permit. After arriving at Shanghai port, you just need to apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office.
