About:Hong Kong Visa Policy

USA Passport holder

Hi, I'll be traveling to India next month via Cathay Pacific and would like to do a stop over in HK for a couple weeks. My thought is that I would come to HK and then travel around the region (Thailand, Vietnam) before heading back to US.

What type of visa would I need and any issues me traveling in and out of HK to other countries in the region?

Actually, USA passport holders are allowed to enter HK freely for a stay of not exceeding 90 days, so you don’t need to apply for any entry permit. You just need to bring your passport, the return or onward ticket and enough travel fees with you each time.
