are we permitted to make a macau day trip

Hi we are from Australia. Our tickets are for entry into Guangzhou and exit from Guangzhou within 72 hours. If we enter using 72 hour transit visa, are we permitted to make a 1 day trip into Macau SAR and back?

Michael, in principle, you are not permitted to make a one day trip into Macau if you are using the 72h free transit policy. However, if you will enter Guangzhou from a foreign country and then leave for Macau within 24 hours, then go back to Guangzhou and leave for a different country within 24 hours, you may not need the entry permit.
