About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Stop over 12 hours - leave the city of Bejing?

My daughter has a 12 hours stop over in Bejing December 21. Can she leave the airport to go and see the great wall at Mutianyu?

If she will fly to a third country or region after staying in Beijing, she can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit in Beijing. After, she needs to apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport and then she can leave the airport and go to see the Great Wall in Mutianyu.

She will arrive in Bejing from Australia, stay 12 hours in Bejing between flights and then continue to Sweden. She will go and visit the Great Wall in Mutianya and then go back to the Airport. Will she need a temporary stay permit for that? How and where does she apply for that? Her nationality is Swedish.

Yvonne, yes, she needs to apply for a temporary stay permit which is free of charge. She should go to the immigration office after arriving at Beijing airport and then apply for the stay permit by proving her passport, and the onward ticket. It is easy.
