About:China Tourist Visa

1 day visit as part of a cruise.

We will be calling into Xiamen for one day as part of a cruise. I understand we need an L type. Do we need to give the cruise ship name as our 'address' on the application form? Will we be issued a 'one visit' visa or a 'multiple visit' one?

Suggs, you can write the cruise ship name and Xiamen as your address on the application form. I cannot assure how many entries will be issued to you. The consular officers will issue you a proper one according to your travel itinerary.
Actually, if the cruise ship will go to a third country or region rather than the one it came from after one-day stop in Xiamen, you may be able to enjoy the 24 hour direct transit in Xiamen, but you’d better confirm that with the cruise ship company. If yes, you don’t need to apply for an L type any more. If not, you still need the L type.

Thank you Gloria. We join the ship in Hong Kong on 18th February 2017 and sail from HK to Xiamen on 19th. We dock in Xiamen on 20th February at 08:00 hrs and sail away at 18:00hrs on the same day (10 hours). We then sail to the Philippines and do not return to China at all.

If we are able to enjoy the 24 hour direct transit facility please could you explain how we practically do that? Do we need to do anything in advice and, if we do it, can we leave the ship to take an excursion? Obviously we do not want to get ourselves in trouble with the Chinese authorities.

In principle, you will be able to enjoy the 24 hour direct transit in Xiamen, but just to play safe, you are advised to double check that with the cruise ship company. You don’t need to do anything in advance if the cruise company answers with a yes.
