About:China Transit Visa

Hi, I am travelling from Moscow to my home country of New Zealand.

I have a 22 hour 40 minute stopover in Shanghai. My plane lands at SHA airport and then my next plane leaves from PVG airport. Do I have paperwork to fill out or do I just show my passport and walk out of SHA and catch a bus/train to PVG? Thanks, Pauline

Pauline, you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai. You need to show your passport and air ticket to the immigration officers and then you can apply for a free temporary stay permit to leave the SHA to PVG.

What is a free temporary stay permit and where do i apply and how long does it take? Can't i just catch a bus to the other airport if i don't want to actually leave the airports? I want minimal mucking around. 😒

The temporary stay permit can allow you to leave the airport to the other airport. It is a stamp on your passport and it is free of charge. If you don’t have the temporary stay permit, you can only stay at the transit zone inside the airport.
You can go to the immigration counter inside the airport to apply for it. It just takes several minutes to get it if there is no long queue.
