About:China Visa Application in USA

Flying in and out of Hong Kong from usa

I will be traveling to Hong Kong for 7days total stay. During this time I would like to visit a friend in Guangzhou... do I need a visa and do I have to get it in USA or can I get it in China?

Tiffany, you need to apply for a tourist L type entry permit to visit your friend in Guangzhou and you should apply for it in your home country ahead of your trip.
Or you can make a trip like this by flight: USA-HK-Guangzhou-Macau-HK-USA and stay in Guangzhou for less than 72 hours, in this case, you will be able to use the 72 hour free transit there and then no entry permit will be needed.
